Eleven years ago a day to remember! On the 16 September 2013, Danny Hirst of Hirst Locksmiths was in Afghanistan on Op Herick.
Whilst on a supply run, Danny Hirsts vehicle that he was commanding drove over a 30kg IED. Thankfully, everyone in the vehicle (5 in total) were all physically ok. But that moment in time was the start of some hard times for Danny. With this incident along with some others; and the death of his friends, Danny Hirst struggled and ended up needing therapy.
Thankfully, Danny Hirst of Hirst Locksmiths has come a long way since getting medically discharged in 2023. He set his business up (Hirst Locksmiths) as he left the Army, he has settled into the Scottish Borders life and is now happily married.
Life can be difficult, but if you have the right people around you (family and friends), you can get through anything.
