Honouring Armed Forces Day - A Veteran’s Story and Life Beyond the Military
Today, on Armed Forces Day, I want to take a moment to say thank you to all those currently serving and to every Veteran who has served our country. 🫡
As a Veteran myself, with 24 years of service in the Royal Engineers, I’m incredibly proud of what I achieved during my time in the Military.
Here are some memories from my service:
Top left photo: Bentiu, South Sudan, during a medals parade after a 6-month deployment. I was the SSM (WO2) at the time. 🇸🇸

Middle left photo: As a Sapper (Spr) on a convoy drive from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Pristina, Kosovo, for a 6-month deployment. 🇽🇰
Middle photo: As SMI (WO1) in BATUS, Canada. Believe it or not, this photo was taken in May—a few hours earlier it was 20°C! 🇨🇦
Bottom photo: My Troop in Afghanistan in 2013 when I was Troop SSGT. A week or so after this photo, my vehicle struck a 30kg IED. Thankfully, none of my crew were physically injured. 🇦🇫
It all feels like a lifetime ago now, but I’m grateful for how life has moved forward. I’m now married, self-employed, and proud to be part of the fantastic community in Earlston, Scottish Borders. I truly love my life today!
