Danny Hirst of Hirst Locksmiths Visits Earlston Primary School to Talk About Remembrance Day and the Poppy
Location: Earlston, Scottish Borders, TD4 6ET
Danny Hirst, owner of Hirst Locksmiths in Earlston, Scottish Borders, recently had the honour and privilege of returning to Earlston Primary School for the second consecutive year to speak to pupils about Remembrance Day, the significance of the Poppy and the importance of remembering those who have served and sacrificed for their country.
As a former Royal Engineers soldier with 24 years of military service, Danny was delighted to have another opportunity to speak to the children and help them understand why Remembrance Day holds such an important place in our national calendar.
An Excellent Reception from Earlston Primary School
Having previously visited the school last year, Danny was delighted to be invited back again.
The children were fantastic throughout the assembly. They behaved impeccably, listened attentively and showed genuine interest in the subject. Their enthusiasm and respectful attitude were a credit to both their parents and the teaching staff at Earlston Primary School.
For Danny, opportunities like this are particularly meaningful. Sharing experiences and helping younger generations understand the importance of remembrance is something he feels very strongly about.
A Thoughtful Thank You
At the end of the assembly, Danny was genuinely touched to receive a box of chocolates and a lovely thank-you card from the school. It was an incredibly thoughtful gesture and one that he greatly appreciated.
Danny would like to thank everyone at Earlston Primary School for making him feel so welcome once again. It was an absolute pleasure speaking to the pupils and staff, and he hopes the children took something meaningful away from the assembly.
Why Remembrance Matters
Remembrance is about more than wearing a Poppy in November. It is about remembering the men and women who have served, those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who returned with physical and emotional scars, and those who continue to serve today.
It is also about passing that understanding on to future generations, ensuring that the stories, sacrifices and values of those who served are never forgotten.
Danny is proud to have been given the opportunity to support his local community in this way.
Lest We Forget.
